FAQ

What is the difference between a mini-session and a full-session?

Mini sessions offer families flexibility with a shorter length session ranging from 6-9 weeks. Offered for our youngest dancers and school aged dancers who might have another activity during the season. These sessions conclude with an in-studio performance and give dancers a chance to shine at CDA Studio!

Full sessions are great for the passionate performer and range from 12-18 weeks. These classes include preparation for a stage performance and introduce dancers to backstage etiquette, audience support, and onstage confidence. Beginning level classes work towards a Spring performance and Levels I/II/III work towards a Winter and Spring performance.

Where do parents/guardians wait during class?

Unless invited in by the instructor, parents/guardians may wait in the hallway or backstage waiting area during class. CANVAS Dance Arts has viewing windows on their studio doors where parents may observe from the hallway.

Parents of Basics (ages 3-4) level dancers may wait in the dance studio, provided there is enough space. No eating or drinking on the dance floor. And please do not interrupt class. Thank you for keeping CANVAS Dance Arts safe, clean, and distraction-free.

We periodically send home progress videos as well!

Which classes perform at the end of a session?

All Basics classes and Mini-session classes end with an in-class showing on the last day of class.

Full-session Beginning classes conclude with an in-studio showing for the Fall session and a stage performance for the Spring session.

Full-session Levels I, I+, II, II+ III, Teen, and DANCEproduction perform on stage at the end of the Fall Session and Spring Session.

DANCEproduction includes additional performance opportunities.

How do I know which class is a good fit?

CDA level placement is determined by your age/grade, readiness, and dance experience. Instructors consider these along with class attendance and studio conduct for a dancer’s eligibility to move to the next class level.

Check our class descriptions for more information on each level or reach out to us at canvasdancearts@gmail.com.

What do I wear to class?

Our studio floors are street shoe free! Please wear ballet shoes, tan jazz shoes, or non slip socks for class.

We recommend comfortable, active clothing for dance classes. Visit our DANCEwear page for suggestions or to purchase directly through CDA. Please use our Teacher Code.
